It’s all too easy in these bleak economic times to be led down a path of anxiety and concern by media coverage of  organisational restructuring, redundancies, jobless figures at all time highs all culminating in a sense of desperation and confusion. Real issues with real impact and I’m not in any way suggesting that people are not affected by these trying circumstances. What is important is the individual focuses on what they can control and influence. Many social and self development writers and authors are bringing even greater clarity to one major issue in these times which provides strength and energising focus – that is adopting a positive mindset. In conferences, workshops, training seminars and articles, much is being made of the real value of getting one’s overall attitude and mental determination in the most positive frame to move forward with great results and contentedness. This blog covers  some of the most important values drawn from my recent research and applies the points of concentration to the world of internet marketing.

Sifting through the almost infinite sources of data, advice and material can be daunting, confusing and often an impediment to action.

The volume of writing is vast and dates back centuries.

In the online industry, where internet marketing, harnessing social networking and leveraging technology, systems and resources are the greatest challenges faced, it’s important to remember some of the basic attitudes needed.

Over 90% of people who start a home based business fail because they have not adopted the mindset to deliver success.

Firstly, success and winning have to become part of your DNA.  If you don’t understand and define for yourself your vision for success and winning you will never get there, or at least your journey will be a frustrating one.

So what are the fundamentals?

• Empower yourself with a positive self image.  Believe in everything you are capable of and commit to be the best you can be every day.  Reflect upon your strengths, values and your skills and apply that positive thought process in a devoted way. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”.

• Create a rock solid self belief.  Appreciate and learn from every experience you encounter and know that no matter what you have to face, your experience, confidence and attitude will lead you to make the best personal choice.

• Adopt a positive and winning mentality.  Look forward in a structured and disciplined way to the future you want to create and establish your own personal route map to deliver a winning outcome.

• Envisage success.  In your own mind create a “success blueprint” and begin to feel the emotions associated with making that blueprint a reality.  As Steven Covey wrote “the best way to predict your future is to create it”.

• Set your goals and constantly review and refine them.  Unless you know where you want to be, it is impossible to get there without some fluke or miracle.  Be precise about your aspirations and targets and write down specific objectives and time scales on a daily basis.  Remain disciplined yet flexible taking account of the inevitable curved balls that life throws at you.  With daily, weekly, mid and long term goals it’s far easier to be able to correct your course if you are temporarily distracted or diverted by referring back to those objectives you’ve documented.

• Be open.  Constantly seek out improvements and innovation in every aspect of your life.  Stick to the plan but be completely willing to take on board new thinking and influences.  This attitude to personal development will maintain a fresh character for you and provide the attraction qualities that make you and your business appealing to a wider market.

• Importantly share all the work you do on this critical mindset area with loved ones. They are after all usually the most critical support network you have.  Involve them, include them and the reinforcing qualities of their support will magnify your success.

• Give to gain.  Remember the fundamental law in attraction marketing is that the more value you can give in an unselfish way, the more you will receive in time.
