what to look for when picking a mentor

If you’re involved in internet marketing or considering becoming involved then I’m certain that you  will have discovered more than enough information out there to help you decide what approach, business or system is right for you. There is an extraordinary level of ‘noise’ on social media sites like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and the challenge for anyone is sifting through this barrage of noise and determining how to take positive action.

I am writing this from New York where i am lucky enough to be able to combine a family trip with some business (attending a coaching conference).

My time here has given me an opportunity myself to rise above the clamour and reflect upon what truly is important in making a success of your online business.

I took a couple of minutes to capture a short video which focuses on the values and characteristics you should look for in making one of the most important decisions, that of picking your sponsor, mentor and coach.

So in the video I deliberately chose a vocabulary that  I felt captured the core ingredients of a successful mentor/student relationship. As I summarise them here, in a word it can best be described as EASE.

Experience

Accessibility

Sensitivity

Expertise

Not only should all of these characteristics be obvious as you make your choice but the ease itself within which you feel comfortable in your relationship with your mentor should be an ever present sentiment.

Experience

You need to know that your chosen mentor has the industry, business and interpersonal experience to be able to communicate with you, guide you and lead you effectively through the exciting world of internet marketing.

Accessibility

I hear so many sad stories of people who joined a business on the back of a relationship with a so called mentor, only to learn of the subsequent disappointment when that mentor simply does not make themselves available. So as part of your judgement, be sure that you know your chosen sponsor is both available and responsive to address all the issues that you have as you make your important decision.

Sensitivity

It will not always be plain sailing. There will inevitably be challenges, frustrations and hurdles to overcome. Look for the kind of patience, sensitivity and understanding that goes with relevant maturity and quality leadership. You need to know that your mentor has an empathy for your circumstances and is in tune with your needs.

Expertise

Be sure that you choose someone to work with who has a proven track record in a relevant business discipline to ensure that they can transfer their skills and expertise to you.

Wishing you much Success, Abundance and Happiness.
